It’s been a little while since we’ve seen veteran actor Denzel Washington in anything on the big screen. But there’s a possibility he’ll appear in Will Smith’s telling of the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina.

Titled “The American Can,” the film tells the story of heroic John Keller who saved several elderly residents during the disaster.

Smith was originally supposed to produce and star in the film, but changed his mind and would rather stay behind the scenes and he wants Denzel to star. Will and wife, Jada also want Mr. Washington for their remake of “Uptown Saturday Night.”

The title comes from the residential complex called the American Can apartments in New Orleans. For two days, the statuesque Heller, a Marine, carried residents to safety.

The part has not been finalized, but we certainly hope he’ll take the role.
