For six years, Steve Loomis was the visible and vocal head of the union representing Cleveland police patrolmen — the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association.
He was defeated in his bid for a third term by his own first vice president, Jeff Follmer.
Loomis was stunned by the outcome.
“I can’t work any harder for them. I’ve done everything I can,” he said.
His critics charged Loomis spent too much time and union expense account money on the successful effort to defeat State Issue 2, a collective bargaining bill that would have weakened public union and worker rights.
Loomis was defeated by nine votes in a Friday/Saturday election.
The vote was 453 to 444.
