But the two Hip-Hop superstars found themselves at the highest levels of France’s political world when French presidential candidate François Hollande of the Socialist Party used their hit song “Ni**as in Paris” in his campaign ad, according to Slate.

For those not familiar with France and its long history of racism, the ad may come off as well…racist. But it seems more like a rallying call to bring together the country’s ethnic groups who have long felted ignored and suppressed by its government.

In the ad, French voters of various races hold up their electoral cards, a possible rebuke to Sarkozy’s past racial insensivity. Hollande is seen campaigning in the diverse suburbs and towns north of Paris, including one used to create the best bilingual pun perhaps ever employed in a political ad. You know that town of roughly 35,000 people about an hour north of Paris? That shit Creil.
