Cleveland Clinic and GE Healthcare will be the first two tenants in the first-of-its-kind Cleveland Medical Mart.

Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald made the announcement Wednesday at the 2012 Cleveland Clinic Innovation Summit held at the Hotel Intercontinental in Cleveland.

GE Healthcare President & CEO Tom Gentile and Dr. Martin Harris from Cleveland Clinic were on hand to share their excitement in becoming initial, long-term tenants.

“We are very proud today to make the announcement that we’re committing to the Medical Mart,” said Gentile. “It will be a long-term laboratory for us, for our disease pathways and we could not be more excited.”

“I’m extremely proud to be connected with a city who is making this kind of investment in our future,” said Dr. Harris.

The Medical Mart will serve health and health care innovation, education and commerce through state-of-the-art spaces, programs and virtual offerings.

The Mart will have the following four themed floors:

First Floor- Health and Home

Second Floor- People, Patients and Caregivers

Third Floor- Clinical Spaces

Fourth Floor- Health care

The $465 million Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center is scheduled to open July 2013.

“Communities that are going to succeed in the 21st century are those that have the courage to invest in innovation and support it with a public and private partnership,” said FitzGerald.
