Grammy Award-winning gospel recording artist, pastor and author Marvin L. Sapp will share his personal testimony during an Indiana Black Expo Inc. conference for parents about suddenly becoming a single parent after his wife died of cancer.

Parents will get many opportunities to improve themselves and the livelihoods of their children at the fifth annual Parent Empowerment Conference on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Indianapolis Marriott East. It is a free event for parents and caregivers.

The theme of the conference, sponsored by Managed Health Services, an Indiana-based health maintenance organization, is “equipping the 21st century parent.” Workshops on health, education and economic development will be presented.
Parents will learn about preparing for the cost of educating their children and early childhood development and receive advice on career changes, among other topics. Managed Health Services Chief Medical Officer Dr. Eric A. Yancy will speak about special needs diagnoses, specifically autism, in the African-American community.
“The goal of this conference is to support and empower parents and caregivers to maximize their potential as parents and become more engaged and involved in their children’s education,” said Yancy in a release.
