One Saginaw native knows what it is like for the family’s breadwinner to have difficulties putting food on the table for Christmas, and that’s what inspired her to help out some area working-class families.

Gospel singer Jessica L. Reedy, a 2006 graduate of Saginaw High School, returned to her hometown to give a helping hand to people who work hard but “just don’t have it.

“My mother worked at General Motors.

She sometimes worked 13 to 14 hours, and sometimes she still didn’t have enough money to feed 5 kids,” 24-year-old Reedy said.

On Monday, Dec. 24, Reedy will deliver Christmas dinner to 14 families in Saginaw, a total of 64 families will receive dinners from her countrywide.

“There will be food and supplies going to people in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Texas and a few other places,” she said.

Reedy said dinners will include turkey, ham, macaroni, dressing and biscuits, and she hopes it helps them smile a little. Some of the dinners provided in Saginaw will be cooked, families outside of the state will receive what they need to prepare the dinner themselves, she said.

“We will provide the basics to get people started,” she said. “It’s a sign to let them know that God loves them.”

Reedy said she wants to keep the families anonymous to respect their privacy.

“We don’t want them to feel like it is a hand me down,” she said. “We just want them to look at it as a blessing.”
