New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has been suspended one game by the NBA following a confrontation with Boston Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett on Monday night, according to the Associated Press.

Anthony and Garnett were involved in multiple arguments and physical play near the conclusion of a game that night and both received technical fouls. Anthony was less than enthused with Garnett’s choice of words following one exchange.

Garnett reportedly said that Anthony’s wife, La La Vazquez, “tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios” and Anthony lost his cool, according to Black Sports Online.

According to the New York Daily News, its sources say the remark was seen as especially offensive, given that Anthony and Vazquez are reportedly going through marital problems.

Following the game Anthony allegedly stood outside of the Celtics’ locker room yelling at Garnett, then attempted to confront Garnett on their team bus.

Security and New York City police separated the two men.

Anthony did not believe he would be suspended because he said he only wanted to talk to Garnett, not get into a fight.

NBA executive vice president of operations Stu Jackson said Wednesday there were “no circumstances in which it is acceptable for a player to confront an opponent after a game.”

The suspension will cost Anthony $176,700 of his $19.4 million salary.

Meanwhile, Anthony and Vasquez are rumored to have been separated for two months.

Anthony says that what Garnett said to him “crossed the line” even though he would not confirm exactly what Garnett said.
