The Ohio Department of Transportation’s District 12, which covers Lake, Geauga and Cuyahoga Counties, told NewsChannel5 all of its snow plows were out salting in Cuyahoga County early Monday morning.

Spokeswoman Amanda Lee said the crews are working 12 hour shifts and started at 10 p.m.

Lee said all last week, ODOT was adding calcium chloride to the salt. It’s a liquid solution that helps aid in the de-icing process. Monday morning, plows spread this solution on interstates and other state roads.

Generally, they will stop using the mixed solution when the temperatures are in the 20′s and 30′s.

Warmer air and rain is in the forecast, so according to meteorologist, Jason Nicholas, that should flush out the ice.
