People in the food service industry, please be careful of what you post on the internet. An Applebee’s waitress was recently fired for posting a picture of a bad tip she received.

As the story goes, a St. Louis waitress named Chelsea Welch was handed a pink slip after she was caught throwing shade to a cheap customer on Reddit.com. An 18 percent gratuity was automatically added to the bill and the customer, Pastor Alos Bell, wasn’t too pleased that an extra $6.23 was added to her bill and scribbled out the gratuity replacing it with ‘I pay God 10%. Why do you get 18?”

Welch then took the receipt and posted it online with the snarky comment, “My mistake sir, I’m sure Jesus will pay for my rent and groceries.” The post became a viral sensation and Welch was let go from the restaurant chain, despite saying she wasn’t the waitress who actually received the tip.

Chelsea Welch said, “When I posted this, I didn’t represent Applebee’s in a bad light. In fact, I didn’t represent them at all. I did my best to protect the identity of all parties involved. I didn’t break any specific guidelines in the company handbook – I checked. “

“But because this person got embarrassed that their selfishness was made public, Applebee’s has made it clear that they would rather lose a dedicated employee than lose an angry customer. That’s a policy I can’t understand.”
