While some women shy away from the trophy wife label, Real Housewives of Atlanta newbie Porsha Stewart wears the badge loud and proud.
“Being a trophy wife per se is not just about your outer looks. It’s about the man who has put you on the pedestal and him admiring you and thinking well enough of you to put you up there,” she recently told ABC News Radio.
“I think it’s important for our little girls to know that they can be a princesses and they can have it all…So I feel proud to represent — and I use the word lightly — the Black trophy wife.”
Unlike her co-stars on the hit reality show, Stewart has consistently shown that she enjoys being a traditional stay-at-home wife who cooks and cleans for her husband, former NFL player Kordell Stewart. In a recent episode, Stewart refused to go to a strip club in Las Vegas without Kordell’s permission, much to the disapproval of her co-stars who have also accused her of allowing her hubby to control her.
But that’s not to say Stewart wants to stay domesticated forever. She told ABC Radio that a music career may also be in her future. “I’ll be coming out with a project,” she said. “It’ll be about relationships for sure and it’ll just speak to that, speak to love and the struggles, and the ups and the downs and the great moments, all of that. It’ll be something that — a soundtrack to our life.”
