cPastor Mac Brunson of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, took to the pulpit over the weekend to warn that South Carolinians may be making a mistake. The area in which they’ve purportedly faltered? Selecting former Gov. Mark Sanford as the Republican candidate in a special House election against Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch

In his sermon, Brunson took aim at the politician’s character and seemingly questioned the judgement of those who have selected to potentially re-elect him. The preacher’s rebuke comes as Sanford hopes to revitalize and relaunch his political career following an extramarital affair and scandal.

“If he dealt treacherously with his wife before — and the state and the people who worked for him, do you think character has changed that much that he’s not going to deal treacherously at some point in the future?,” he rhetorically asked. ”That’s a white man, GOP conservative. I’m an equal offender, brother. I don’t care who it is. If it ain’t right, it ain’t right for nobody.”

As BuzzFeed notes, Brunson also recapped some of the “treacherous” behavior that was once exhibited by Sanford. He noted that the former politician lied to his wife — and the people who elected him — before his affair with an Argentinian woman came to light.
