Before now, BET Awards had not announced any gospel performers. But on Thursday, June 27, Grammy-
nominated recording artist Tamela Mann revealed that she had been added to the performance roster along
with platinum-selling Grammy Award winner, Kirk Franklin.
The two are set to perform together on the BET awards stage—likely sharing the Franklin-penned gospel hit
that has swept the nation, Take Me To The King.
While it’s good to see Christian voices amplified on national stages like those provided by the BET platform,
will Mann and Franklin be enough to draw in staunch Christian audiences who find performers like Nicki
Minaj, Ciara, and R. Kelly, less than appealing?
