Verizon How Sweet the Sound 2010, the competition that searches for the best choir in America, kick off last night at the Toyota Center in Houston. Donald Lawrence, returned once again this year as the host of the event and shared the duties with CeCe Winans. Byron Cage, Hezekiah Walker and James Fortune, were the judges of the competition and each gave their own stirring performance. James Fortune filled in for Marvin Sapp, who had to travel back home upon learning the tragic news of his wife.

Royalwood Sanctuary Choir from the Pentecostals of Royalwood Church won the prize for Regional Winner Best Large Choir and Heaven Bound from Northwest Houston Seventh-Day Adventist Church won the prize for the Best Small Choir. Verizon will bring the How Sweet The Sound experience to the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on tomorrow night (Sep11).
