After a one-month pilot program, the Cleveland Division of Police have decided against purchasing new dashboard cameras for their patrol cars in favor of body cameras.

Police ran the program from mid-February through mid-March. Police Chief Michael McGrath said they “are very pleased with the results.”

About 30 officers wore the small cameras that are attached to uniforms like their radios. The small video camera records their activity once activated.

McGrath said the division has been looking at different types of video technology over the past two years. McGrath said he feels the body cameras provide more support and assistance to officers. He said he believes it can better serve the community.
