A long-time volunteer of The Old Stone Church in Public Square was honored Sunday morning for her decades of service.

Mrs. Ellen Guenther has been the three to six year-old Sunday School teacher for 67 years.

Sunday, she retired from her position.

Mrs. Guenther was known for always wearing hats. Sunday morning, some members of the congregation wore hats during the special celebration to honor her and her work throughout the years.

“The things she has seen and the things she’s helped our young people work through; the wars that our nation has been involved in; the joys and the crisis that our nation has been through; she has been the one who has helped shape the hearts, the minds, and most importantly the faith of our young people,” said Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. R. Mark Giuliano.
