1. WINTER WEATHER

Bad timing: The Northeast is going to be a soggy, sleety and snowy mess the next couple of days. Yep, just in time for Thanksgiving. The storm that’s already pummeled a good portion of the nation is now whipping things up around Philly, New York and Boston. That won’t cause any travel headaches for the millions who live there, will it? Pack plenty of patience folks as you head to the airport or hit the road.

2. CHINA, JAPAN, U.S. TENSIONS

Tiny islands, big deal: Everyone is strutting their stuff over the East China Sea – China, the United States and Japan. That’s where Beijing said a few days ago that it was implementing a new air defense zone. China wants anyone flying through the area to file flight plans, but that’s not happening. Japanese airlines say they won’t and the U.S. military flew a couple of B-52 bombers through the area for good measure. So what’s all the fuss? China and Japan are feuding over a couple of little islands that both nations claim. They may be near large reserves of natural resources.

The bottom line from Francis: the church needs to rethink old rules and customs. And that starts at the top.
