Northeast Ohioans will be flocking to area bakeries this week to feast before the fasting season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.

Employees of Rudy’s Strudel and Bakery on Ridge Road in Parma have been working around the clock to bake nearly 50,000 paczkis in anticipation of long lines for Fat Tuesday.

“We deserve this Cleveland. This has been a rough winter,” said Rudy’s Bakery co-owner Lidia Trempe. “We are going to hoop it up. We’re going to show them how we do it in Parma.”

Even though the bakery was closed Sunday, employees were busy inside filling the traditional Polish and Ukrainian pastries with 26 different sweet flavors.
