Crystal Lewis’ new compilation album 25 is fast approaching and her almost 20-year-old song “People Get Ready…Jesus is Coming” has gotten the remix treatment and features a verse from rapper Propaganda. However, not all radio formats play hip-hop on their stations so another version of the remix minus the verse has been released.
“When we released Crystal’s new version of ‘People Get Ready’ on July 17, the response was immediate and tremendous,” said Jeff McLaughlin, president of A-Sides Radio Promotion in a press release.
“Lewis offers a new arrangement of the ‘People Get Ready,’ which was written by Brian Ray, with additional bridge lyrics by Propaganda (Humble Beast) and music by Peace 586 (ILLECT Recordings). The song will be included on 25, the singer’s upcoming CD, which celebrates Lewis’ 25 years in ministry with 25 of her top songs,” reads the description of the song.
“People Get Ready…Jesus is Coming” was a No. 1 hit in 1996, and she re-released the single to radio 18 years later.
“This has long been one of my favorite songs to perform live, as the message remains relevant to each and every generation,” Lewis said, “I’ve been a hip-hop/r+b/gospel fan from the get-go, so adding some of that flavor to this, one of my favorite songs, seems like the perfect next step…yes, even as a veteran artist there are next steps!”
Lewis has over 20 albums, seven more in Spanish, and over a million records sold.
