Dr. Al “The Bishop” Hobbs was a national recording artist and songwriter who worked as vice president and general manager of WTLC radio and also the vice president of marketing and public relations of Indiana Black Expo.

Hobbs was 70 years old.

He was honored with Indiana Black Expo’s Trail Blazer Award at this year’s Summer Celebration, but was too ill to attend the ceremony.

Hobbs, who battled cancer for the past three years, also served as chairman of both the Gospel Music Workshop of America and the Gospel Announcer’s Guild.

“Al has left us stronger and better. We take comfort in knowing that he has left us for a better place, the shining city that awaits him,” wrote Pastor Henzy Green. “Al, we salute you!”

Celebration of Life services are pending.
