The RTA Transit Police Department has a new officer: a furry one, with four legs!

Officer Ben– a 1-year-old yellow Lab– was introduced at the RTA board meeting Tuesday morning.

He just completed 10 weeks of training with the Transportation Security Administration.

There are now seven teams of K9s and handlers on the RTA Transit police force; all are trained in explosives detection.

In addition to keeping the buses and trains safe, they also help when needed in the community.

The K9s all live with their handlers and are part of their families.
