Akron gym teacher James Donald is the keeper of the rusty relic which could quite possibly be the city’s most famous basketball rim.

In 1999, Lebron James, an eighth grader, sent a large crowd into a frenzy when he dunked for the first time ever during a game between the faculty and the undefeated basketball team at Riedinger Middle School.

Donald, who was one of the faculty members playing, could hardly believe what he witnessed.

“We just kind of watched. LeBron is going down the court and then all of a sudden he just goes up with one hand and gets his first dunk. It was exciting,” Donald said.

James led his team to a 71-39 victory over the teachers.

The NBA star recently recalled the memorable slam dunk during the Disney XD special “Becoming.”

“In eighth grade, I dunked the basketball. My classmates and people on the team in my middle school, they were just like, ‘What did you just do?’ I was like, ‘I have no idea. I’ve dreamed about it, but I have no idea what I just did,'” he said.
