The Cleveland Browns had grown sick of the phrase “same old Browns,” as to them, it was tied to the struggles of the previous 14 years since their return to the National Football League in 1999, and the 2014 team proved they were anything but like the old editions.
The Browns (6-3) came to Cincinnati with a chance at a statement win that would put them in a first-place tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3) in the AFC North Division, and on the strength of the running game, they did just that with a 24-3 decision over the Bengals (5-3-1) at Paul Brown Stadium.
When rookie running back Terrance West reached the end zone, the Browns extended their lead over the Bengals to 21 points, 24-3, with 4:49 to play in the third quarter.
Originally, West looked as though he fumbled away the football, but the referee ruled that he had broken the play of the end zone before having the ball knocked loose. A replay review of confirmed the ruling of touchdown.
