From bad to worse: After a year held captive by ISIS,Peter Kassig became the latest American beheaded by the terror group, according to the White House. The American aid worker and former soldier, who also went by the name Abdul-Rahman Kassig, had gone to Syria to help victims of its civil war when he was captured. One analyst says we should expect more vicious attacks to follow.

WINTER WEATHER

Again? And you thought last week was bad. The early winter storm that socked much of the United States with cold weather last week is expected to make an encore performance. The mercury will plummet on Monday and Tuesday in the Northeast and Southeast, and some parts of the Plains, Midwest and Great Lakes could see 4-6 inches of snow.

Finally: Delayed for months by chaos and conflict, the recovery of wreckage from Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 has finally started in war-torn eastern Ukraine. The plane that carried 298 people was shot down in July over a part of eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Russian separatists. The wreckage will go to the Netherlands, where most of the victims were from, as investigators try to figure out the cause of the crash.
