For the shoppers hitting the stores to get the best deals on Black Friday — here are a few suggestions to get the best experience.

“This is a fun day,” says Roy Buchinsky, MD, Director of Wellness at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, about Black Friday.

The day after Thanksgiving has become the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season, with stores offering specials encouraging shoppers to line up to be first for “door buster” specials.

“It’s not necessary to buy things you don’t need but (rather) to see what it’s all about,” Buchinsky said.

And don’t forget the community aspects of celebrating Thanksgiving.

Dr. Buchinsky advises shoppers to take it slow, not try to get every deal on Friday, and not try to accomplish everything on one day. “Don’t worry,” he says, “there are going to be lots more shopping days.”

1) Enjoy the day

2) Plan (Make a list)

3) Make a budget (and stick to it)

4) Don’t try to get it all done in one day
