Cleveland’s future is directly linked to the educational level of its residents. Almost 60 percent of new jobs will require some college.
Currently six percent of Cleveland residents have associate’s degrees and eight percent have bachelor’s degrees.
Mayor Frank Jackson put together a team to look for ways to help more CMSD students get through college.
It includes the city, Cleveland Metropolitan School District, college and university presidents, and civic leaders.
The group formed the Higher Education Compact of Greater Cleveland, a community effort to increase the number of Cleveland students who earn degrees.
The focus will be on college readiness, college access and college persistence.
Members of the Compact will identify students enrolled in degree programs and track their progress.
