The 42nd Annual GMA Dove Awards were handed out last night at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The night celebrated the best in Gospel and Christian music. TV host and comedienne, Sherri Shepherd was the host of the event. The show was marked by several dynamic performances – but none as incredible as the “Singing Pastors,” the segment included Marvin Sapp, Smokie Norful, Bishop Paul S. Morton, Deitrick Haddon and Bishop Darryl Hines. All are church pastors as well as recording and performing artists.
Marvin Sapp won his first ever solo artist Dove Award for [Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year] for his hit “The Best In Me.” “I dedicated it to my wife, MaLinda,” said Marvin Sapp. MaLinda Sapp died of colon cancer last September.
It was also a first time win for singer/actress, Tamela Mann, who is known for her role as Cora in Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns.” She won in the [Traditional Gospel Album of the Year] category over Shirley Caesar.
Israel Houghton won for the [Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year
Album]. The show will be televised at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday on the Gospel Music Channel, and repeated at 9 p.m..
