Some students are written off as knuckleheads early in their academic career for the average silly stuff teenagers do as they struggle to grow up.  But, some  have problems more serious than others and they don’t know how to convey them to anyone.  One young man had similar issues, but ironically, he found his way through words to a successful career.

M.K. Asante, Jr., is a tenured professor of creative writing and film professor at Morgan State University.  He is a prolific writer and award-winning filmmaker, whose latest film, “Motherland,” won Best Documentary at the Pan African Film Festival last year.  The accomplishments he’s made would make a 50-year old proud, but at age 29, he is an intellectual marvel.
