First lady Michelle Obama will show off her arm by throwing the first pitch of the Tampa Bay Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles game on July 20.

The honorary tossing of the first pitch will highlight a day in which Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association and the White House’s “Let’s Move” campaign announce their joint initiative to battle childhood obesity. An official announcement will take place early in the day, followed by an on-field clinic hosted by Rays and Orioles players for young baseball players from local Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) and Boys and Girls Clubs. While these events won’t be open to the public, all ticket holders will get to see Obama, accompanied by representatives from RBI and the Boys and Girls Club, throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

“Let’s Move” aims to combat the epidemic of childhood obesity through a comprehensive approach that builds on effective strategies, and mobilizes public and private sector resources. “Let’s Move” is intent on engaging every sector impacting the health of children to achieve the national goal. It also will provide schools, families and communities simple tools to help kids be more active, eat better, and get healthy.
