The Browns signed first-round draft pick Phil Taylor, the team announced Tuesday evening.

The Cleveland Browns today signed rookie defensive lineman Phil Taylor. The Browns selected Taylor in the first round (21st overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft with a choice acquired from Kansas City.

All eight members of the Browns 2011 draft class now have been signed.

“We are very happy that we were able to sign Phil and now have all eight draft picks under contract,” Browns GM Tom Heckert said. “It was important to get him in here when we did, and I want to thank Peter Schaffer for all of his help in getting this deal done.  It is apparent that Phil kept himself in excellent shape since we drafted him and he told us he can’t wait to get started.  He will be in meetings with the rest of the players tonight and jump right into the mix when we are back on the field Thursday.”

Taylor started 27 of 44 contests combined at both Penn State University (2006-07) and Baylor University (2009-10). He totaled 107 career tackles, 5.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, an interception and blocked two kicks. Taylor started all 13 games as a senior, recording a career-best 62 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble en route to earning All-Big 12 second-team honors. He is a native of Clinton, Md., where he attended Gwynn Park High School.
