After several slain Black leaders have gone down in history but failed to receive recognition, the first national memorial for an African American and non-U.S. president is going to be celebrated by none other than the nation’s leader.
President Barack Obama will deliver a special speech Aug. 28 at the Martin Luther King Memorial dedication in Washington D.C.
Also to be in attendance include Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Jamie Foxx.
“The dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial has been long-awaited, and people from around the world are coming to experience this . . . historic moment,” said Harry E. Johnson Sr., president of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation.
