Virginia’s Oldest African-American Convention of Baptist Churches Publishes Continuous Improvement Process Model

The Virginia Baptist State Convention, Inc. (VBSC) has launched the most extensive communication mapping process for churches in its 143-year history: Seen and Sustained: Best Practices in Communication that Increase the Visibility and Income of the Local Church.

Co- author, Leonard N. Smith, D. Min., president of the VBSC, said that the “Continuous Improvement Process(tm)” model provides the necessary road map for churches to express what its priorities are so that members and communities better understand what is available to them.

Smith said “The book’s model meets pastors of churches right where they are. Most of us [pastors] are so busy that we need help architecting, articulating and administering communication programs that complement best practices in the public and private sectors. The book is better than what we can currently buy off the shelf because the model has been specifically tailored to support the unique needs of the faith – based community, especially in the area of marketing since this continues to be a challenging concept and topic.” The workbook, available to pastors, “provides a precise approach to organizational management,” said Smith.

Co-author, Akia T. Garnett, MBA creator of the Continuous Improvement Model(tm), is an entrepreneur, and adjunct professor of marketing and business at Trinity University of Washington, DC. Having worked in the for profit and not for profit sectors over the last 15 years Garnett said “During the more recent years, I began to support the branding needs of churches and so it became clear to me that they have complementary functions of many mission driven organizations, with real business needs and real interests to pursue.” she said.

Co- author, Leonard N. Smith, D. Min., is senior minister of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, Arlington, VA and co-author, Akia T. Garnett, M.B.A., is president of Brandbuilder, a communication and marketing firm. The VBSC’s mission is to advance the Kingdom of God by effectively equipping and empowering its affiliated associations and churches and their members through biblical practices and practical principles. The VBCS, Inc. is located at 1900 South 19th Street, Arlington, VA 22204; www.TheVBSC.org.  Copies of the book can be purchased for $29 on Brandbuilder’s web address at www.MasterYourBrand.com.
