Hundreds turned out at Steelyard Commons Tuesday for Cleveland’s observance of National Night Out, an annual event to raise crime prevention awareness and strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the community.

Participants had a fun evening of music, food, and games while learning about crime prevention.

Mayor Frank Jackson credits events like National Night Out with an increase in the number of homicides police have been able to solve in Cleveland.

“Crime is a social issue,” Jackson said. “The way to deal with it is to include everyone in the solution and that’s what this is about.”

National Night Out events were held in several different neighborhoods around Cleveland.
