A new children’s book that hasn’t even been published yet is already causing a controversy. The cover of “Maggie Goes on a Diet” shows Maggie dreaming of her thinner self. In the story, Maggie is bullied relentlessly because of her weight. After a change to Maggie’s diet that includes, fruits, vegetables and oatmeal, plus exercise, Maggie loses a lot of weight. She also instantly makes friends and is even transformed into a soccer star, which “gave Maggie popularity and fame.”

The children’s book is targeted at girls as young as six and is causing a firestorm on mommy blogs. Author Paul Kramer says the book is meant to be inspirational for overweight children to make the right eating choices. However, others view it as potentially harmful to a child’s self-esteem
