22-year-old Donald Young beat No. 24 Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina to advance to the fourth round of The U.S. Open.

Young, one of four Americans among the final 16, entered the Grand Slam an 84th-ranked wild-card entry.

He was a prodigy at 15, a washout at 20, a poster child for the perils of premature celebrity for most of his life, the emotional extremes leaving him on the brink of quitting the sport before he was even of legal age.
