Fellow classmates of a teen fatally struck while riding his bike honored his memory by releasing balloons.

Mourners lined Center Ridge Road Thursday morning in honor of Alex Sismour, and released balloons in complete silence as the hearse carrying the child’s body drove by.

The North Ridgeville 14-year-old was hit at Route 57 and Broad Street in Elyria on Saturday while biking with friends.

His former classmates at North Ridgeville Middle School mourning his death and showing support for his family.

“It’s been difficult for a lot of them,” said School Guidance Counselor Melissa O’Donnell. “A lot of them haven’t dealt with any death at all, and especially someone who is young. That’s really been on their minds, how does someone who’s only 14-years-old…how does this happen?”

Residents also showed up to support the boy’s family in their time of grief.

“Just to be here to support them through their loss,” said Teresa Allen of North Ridgeville. “I pray for them it’s a terrible tragedy.”
