Consumers are being warned about a Netflix scam that is making its way around the web.
The email phishing scam tries to get information from users by asking them to send in credit card information, according to theconsumerist.com.
The email claims to be from Netflix and says there is a problem with your credit card. A .zip file is attached to the email, and the message asks users to download the file, then enter credit car information into the file.
The exact text of the email, according to The Consumerist, says:
“Dear Netflix Member,
Your payment method was declined for one of several reasons, such as insufficient funds or an expired credit card.
To correct the problem, please update your credit card or add a new one in order to be able to use your Netflix account in the future.
This is a reminder to update your credit card as soon as possible.
Please download the form attached to this email, unzip it and open it in a web browser.
Once opened, you will be provided with steps to update your account.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure your account safety.
Sincerely,
Netflix Member Service”
Also be careful about strange email attachments, even if the message appears to be from a legitimate source. You can always go to the service’s website if you have confusion about your account, rather than just replying to the email.
And if you get this message in your email inbox, simply delete it and save yourself the hassle.
