Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson announced personnel changes in the Divisions of EMS and Fire and in the Department of Public Safety.

“In April of 2010, I announced that I had accepted the recommendation from Fire Chief Paul Stubbs and EMS Commissioner Edward Eckart, Jr. to consolidate or integrate the divisions of EMS and Fire,” said Mayor Jackson. “The goal is to include and to better coordinate services that we deliver to our communities.”

Jackson has appointed EMS Commissioner Edward Eckart, Jr. to be the Assistant Director of Public Safety. “Eckart’s primary responsibility is to lead the integration of fire and EMS into one organization that will result in better fire, rescue, emergency and medical services to the communities of Cleveland,” said Jackson.

Cleveland Fire Chief Paul Stubbs has decided to retire in April 2012, after 35 years of service in Cleveland.

Asst. EMS Commissioner Nicole Carlton has been named the Acting Commissioner of the Division of Emergency Medical Service.
