A retha Franklin presented her annual gospel concert a few weeks ago at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, where her father, C.L. Franklin, was once pastor. The line-up of the special showcase included, Karen Clark-Sheard of the popular gospel group the Clark Sisters, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Reverend Donald Parson, and Bishop Carlton Pearson. Aretha began offering this free gospel concert and feast to Detroiters seven years ago — kind of a pre-holiday gift to the city. Remember, last year this time Aretha was suffering from an undisclosed illness — she has a lot to be thankful for this year.
