CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

Crews have reopened I-71 after an accident involving a Cleveland Police officer.

The accident happened around 2:15pm in the northbound lanes near the Ridge Road overpass.

Police say a gray SUV spun out and the officer stopped to check on that accident.

Just before he stepped out of the cruiser, a white car spun out and slammed into the cruiser.

The officer and the driver of the white car are being treated at MetroHealth Medical Center. No word yet on their conditions.

A third vehicle also spun out in the area, but managed to avoid the other cars.

The back-up from the accident was all the way back to W. 130th.
