WOODLAKE, Calif. — An 11-year-old boy was rescued from a chimney after getting stuck trying to climb into a locked home to let his family in.

Matthew McCammon spent about two hours wedged between bricks and soot before Woodlake firefighters could dismantle part of the chimney and pull him out Monday.

Neighbors say the family was in the process of moving into the home at the time of the accident.

Matthew suggested climbing down the chimney when his family forgot the key to the home, which they were painting prior to the move.

Despite his parents warnings Matthew climbed on the roof and into the chimney.

Crews used an air chisel to bust a hole in the back of the chimney to free the red-haired McCammon.

Matthew was taken to taken to an area hospital to be checked out, but was cleared by a doctor to attend his first day of middle school the next day.
