The gospel singing group known as the Interdenominational Mass Choir is soliciting community support for a concert that will benefit victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Dolcy Hicks, choir founder, said several other groups have already signed on to perform in the concert, including the New Diamond Jubilees and the Four-Way Gospel Singers.

But Hicks said that other churches and musical groups from the city and surrounding area are invited to sign up to be a part of the performance. He hopes the concert lineup will include at least 20 groups from the local area and region.

The concert will be from 6 to 9 p.m. March 13 at Grover C. Fields Middle School. Tickets will cost $10. Proceeds will go to disaster relief through the American Red Cross, which has already launched disaster relief efforts in Haiti.

The American Red Cross has released $10 million to support relief efforts in the country, according to a news release from the organization’s national headquarters sent Friday.

Volunteers and staff members from the Red Cross who are working on the ground in Haiti will be aided by disaster management specialists scheduled to arrive there today from the United States, Peru and Mexico.

As soon as airports begin accepting relief shipments, tarps, hygiene items and cooking sets for approximately 5,000 families will come from the Red Cross warehouse in Panama.
