The program started in 1983 when an officer’s child needed surgery. It evolved into a bigger charity thanks, in part, to donations worth more than $1 million from prominent Clevelanders.
Several officers said Sadie takes calls at all hours when patrol officers spot needy kids or families. He has even delivered stoves and refrigerators to homes. Sadie recalled many of the poignant memories, including throwing a birthday party for a dying child.
