More than 400 people participated in the airport’s first-ever plane pull and raised $17,323 for the Special Olympics Ohio. The event kicked off the airport’s 85th anniversary celebration.
Twenty-two teams competed to pull a Continental Airlines Boeing 737 12 feet in the quickest time. Everybody from hulking power lifters to Special Olympic athletes to a woman clad in all leather yanked on the 60-foot rope.
Event organizers announced the event six weeks ago and didn’t know what to expect for a turnout. The crowd swelled to more than 700 people and will become an annual charity event.
