As of Tuesday, the district had recalled 335 of the 546 laid-off teachers, according to spokeswoman Roseann Canfora.

And 69 other teachers declined to come back or failed to show up for meetings with school officials.

Chief Executive Officer Eugene Sanders had said the number of teachers brought back depended on their cumulative pay and benefits. The recall was made possible by $17 million in concessions that teachers agreed to for the 2010-11 school year.
