For a teacher in Cleveland, a national honor for her literally came walking through her classroom door.

Silvana Ferri, who teachers at the Cleveland Children’s Academy, is one of only three teachers across the country to receive the knowledge university early childhood educator award.

“I feel really surprised. I was just looking forward to reading a story about kittens. And I’m a little overwhelmed. But I think I’m the luckiest person to do a job that I love, that I truly enjoy every day, working with teachers and young children and really this is a wonderful way to have a career and enjoy children every day,” said Ferri.

With the award comes $10,000. Ferri, who was nominated by her colleagues, received the award for demonstrating exceptional skills in her work with children
