Z1079 stops the music in order to bring awareness of an issue that has hit home and has caught national headlines. At Mentor High School in Mentor, Ohio, four students have committed suicide since 2006 due to being bullied at school. Radio One felt obligated to bring awareness to this issue by turning the music off and speaking to the community and experts about it. Z1079 Colby Colb, Latin Assassin, Basheer Jones, and Bijou Star hosted an on air 2 hour segment that spoke with teens who are bullies and are being bullied. and spoke to many effected by bullying in our community and schools. Angela Flowers of Making A Difference and Leslie Huff of the National Black Justice Coalition were in attendance to share solutions for dealing with the youth and discouraging bully and it’s effects. Also child psychologist Dr. Art LaPlace guest hosted the show. He said, “A recent study reported one out of six children are bullied on a regular basis.”
