Just two months after being assaulted by a group of girls at a Brooklyn high school, Shacara McLaurin turned her trauma into a campaign to fight against teen bullying.
McLaurin, left Brooklyn Academy High School after five girls from Bedford Stuyvesant Preparatory High School, housed in the same building, brutally attacked her with a padlock to prevent her from performing in a talent competition. The attack left McLaurin, 18, with six stitches near her ear, a deep gash in her face and a bruised jaw. Two months later, her hearing hasn’t fully returned and she is still haunted with fear.
The teen has since stood on a platform against school bullying, meeting with the City Council to tell her emotional story in hopes that they will examine whether or not city schools are doing enough to prevent bullying
