Oprah Winfrey is denying a National Enquirer report that O.J. Simpson confessed to the 1994 murder of his ex-wife to one of her producers.

A spokesperson for her production company Harpo denied the report that the dream interview is in the works.

“That’s not true,” a spokesperson said of the story when asked by The Hollywood Reporter..

The original Enquirer story has now been taken off the site. But a story in Britain’s Daily Mail this afternoon quotes extensively from it.

According to the story, Oprah and/or her representatives have been communicating for a year with Simpson, who’s serving time in a Nevada prison on an armed robbery conviction.

The story even quotes Simpson as saying he did murder his estranged wife, Nicole, in 1994 (for which he was later acquitted), but that he did it in “self-defense” after she came at him with a knife.

But now, doubt has been cast on whether any of these conversations took place at all, and we’re left with Oprah’s unfulfilled dream – which she articulated last week at a cable industry convention in Chicago.

“I have a dream of O.J. Simpson confessing to me,” Winfrey said. “And I am going to make that happen, people . . . I don’t just want the interview — I want the interview on the condition that you are ready, Mr. Simpson.”
