With all precincts reporting, unofficial results of Tuesday’s special election show many school districts will have to go back to the drawing board as voters turned down multiple levy requests.
It was the fourth time officials in the Nordonia Hills City School District tried unsuccessfully to get voters to pass a 6.91-mill levy. It wasn’t the ideal outcome for other school districts either where voters said no to levies, including Cuyahoga Hts., Strongsville, Riverside, North Ridgeville, Field, Stow-Munroe Falls and Wadsworth. Nordonia Hills school officials have said if the levy fails, more cuts are possible.
Better news elsewhere, as school districts celebrating victories included Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools, Jefferson Local and Rootstown.
In Seven Hills, the trash collection issue was turned down, but voters approved the replacement and increase levy for fire and EMS. The parks and recreation charter amendment in Independence was voted down.
It may take until Wednesday for the final unofficial results to come in for the Black River Local School District levy due to multiple counties reporting, along with Ashland City School’s levy.
Election officials in northeast Ohio report voter turnout at the polls was low, but that’s typical for a special election.
