former deputy auditor for the Cuyahoga County Auditor’s Office and one of his acquaintances have been indicted on corruption charges connected to Jimmy Dimora and Frank Russo.
Samir Mohammad, who worked in the auditors office in that position from April 15, 2004 until sometime in 2010, and Hamdi “Sam” Qasem are accused of using the power and authority of public officials for their own personal and financial benefit.
The indictment was released Thursday morning from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Cleveland.
According to the document, Mohammad and Qasem were involved in racketeering activity with former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora and former Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo from 1998 through December 2008. The charges include Hobbs Act extortion, obstruction of justice and bribery.
The indictment alleged Mohammed and Qasem provided things of value to Dimora and Russo in exchange for personnel actions to benefit certain current and prospective county employees.
